A call for Curiosity

Hello scholars, warriors, teachers, merchants, politicians, artists, fisherpeople, students, crafters, questers, sailors, explorers, hello everyone!

As you might have heard, the other month, another memory manifested, this time resembling the former Guardian of Shallam*, a shimmering Kirin.

My recollections from this day are, naturally, incomplete, but I believe after a boy called out in fear (a boy who deserves all love and good wishes), many people from different citystates came and found death, since the Kirin-memory killed whomever entered its changing locations. Which quickly lead to various multi-citystate-alliance groups forming, trying to take it down in a big bloodbath. They attacked the Kirin-memory over and over. A friend told me that other memory creatures had been killable.

The memory of the shimmering Kirin was not killed.

A small group of mortals decided to not join the attempts to kill, to not join their mates. Some maybe driven by curiosity, some (like me, as former Shallamese Ambassador) driven by an aching heart, some because of other individual reasons, tried to find a way to calm the shimmering memory creature. I would like to thank those individuals with all of my heart...for not simply following the screaming flow, but taking a step back and then consciously chosing another, more quiet path.

Curiosity helps. Curiosity can find solutions. It did on that day.

PING*echo
It does help to talk to others. A way was found, with help. With curiosity and compassion. The memory of the Kirin could be calmed, it stopped attacking, and it eventually raised its head to the heavens and faded. A thread to the memory of a room in Shallam currently exists at Eastern Road.
Not the only lasting trace of what happened that day (but this part is not for me to write about here).

Maybe when the memory kirin was thrown into this reality, it had not even been given the knowledge that Shallam was gone. Maybe it was acting so aggressive because when it was thrown into this reality, it found itself confused on why it was not where it usually stood (in Shallam), but in areas unknown to it. Maybe it moved around because it was desperately trying to find its way home, to Shallam.

And maybe it only began to realize that Shallam was gone upon reaching the location in Jaru where the bridge eastwards, to Shallam, would have been.

It finally made its way to the ruins of the harbour of Shallam, where it remained. Where it stood. I was there as soul, and saw tears falling from its eyes, and I saw it trying to continue guarding its home - or rather, the bits left.

This happening is not over, yet. A lot is yet unknown.

However, one call out to all of you: Start loving your curiosity more. Drawing weapons to kill, kill, kill - how many people chose this as first and second and third response that day was shocking to me. Those were people from different cities and professions, people who usually would never form a team with those they consider enemies.

So many people threw curiosity concerning this weird happening over board and responded with their weapons.

Some because of past dealings with memory creatures, some because the Kirin-memory acting aggressive, some because of what happened with the boy, who knows. Some maybve simply felt their tickle for combat activated?

If another memory should appear, strong and aggressive, it could make sense to see beyond the obvious.

Best,
Laras, MD

*(To the younger adventurers amongst us - Shallam was a city in Sapience before it was destroyed in 612 AF, often called "The Jewel of the East", in reference to the sparkling crystal and golden domes on many of its buildings. Housewise, it was home to five: the Templars, the Empyreal Assembly, the Dawnstriders, the Crystalline Circle, and the Sentaari. I could write volumes about this city, but since others have, already, find the gift of their autorship in the various libraries of Sapience).

Penned by my hand on the 11th of Chronos, in the year 919 AF.
