The Ivory Tower

It was a brisk Daedalan morning when Queen Clytemnestra of Arcadia
received a formal invitation addressed to her from her estranged
daughter, Atlantia. The Ivory Tower, the new headquarters of the Ivory
Mark, had been completed at last, ready to be opened to public use. The
letter indicated the date of a dedication ceremony to herald the
occasion, performed by Mayor Cotridge of Jaru. In addition to inviting
the atavian monarchs to the event, the letter also outlined Atlantia's
hopes for reconciliation with her royal family.
The queen, bitter about her daughter's abrupt departure from royal life,
could not resist the opportunity presented. Devising a plan to publicly
humiliate Atlantia and, ideally, rout her home to Arcadia in defeat,
Clytemnestra sought out the group she believed would be most willing to
help bring down her daughter: the Quisalis Mark.
In a clandestine meeting deep within the Quisalis caves below New Thera,
Clytemnestra met with Dakrol, the Swiftblade, and his sworn assassins.
The queen made is clear she wanted no harm to come to her daughter, but
following her departure the group began to develop a more sinister plot.
A spy was needed to infiltrate the ceremony and signal the assassins,
who would eliminate Atlantia and her guests before wreaking havoc upon
the tower itself. Pernicios di'Martini quickly volunteered.
Meanwhile, a small party of champions and guests began to assemble in
the Sangre Plains, first among them the dragons Andante Vallah and
Griffel Crescent, who awaited the start of the ceremony. Pernicios crept
unseen into the gathering crowds and, as soon as Atlantia began to
speak, he gave the cue and the forces of the Quisalis Mark attacked.
The battle was swift and decisive, and the only Champion left alive at
the ceremony was Andante, who refused to bring violence upon his
Quisalis citymates and allies. But the attackers had struck too soon for
their planned looting: the heavy doors of the Ivory Tower were still
barred. True to their kind, the assassins swiftly dispersed while the
blood of the Ivory Mark was still sinking into the battlefield.
Deep in the halls under New Thera, Queen Clytemnestra confronted her
daughter's killers over the treachery, only to receive mockery from
within the Quisalis ranks at her audacity. Unable to retaliate without
admitting to her own part in the murderous plot, the atavian queen had
no choice but to return to her palace, shrouded in a silencing guilt.
Undeterred, the Champions made their way through Maya's Halls, returning
to the Sangre Plains with reinforcements against further attacks, but
there was no further fighting to be had. Atlantia, still unaware of the
familial betrayal, completed the short ceremony with Mayor Cotridge and
opened the doors of the Ivory Tower to the public, a hub of activity for
future and current Champions.
