Sapience,
There are many on this continent who purport to be heroes, and yet there are very few who actually are.
Are you tired of the hypocrisy of mortalkind? Do you watch, day in and day out, as mortals proclaim one thing and do another - as they twist every principle set out by themselves or by Them - until nothing is left at all? Too often is the title "Sir" or "Ser" or "Dame" flaunted about as if it means something whilst the bearer believes in little and does even less to defend those beliefs.
I write to announce the formal establishment of the Order of the Owl. This Order is quite different from those you have heard of before, and our Code is strictly adhered to at all times.
THE CODE OF THE OWL
1. One of the Order of the Owl shall never back away from a challenge to solo combat, within reason. This does not mean that every challenge must be entertained precisely when issued, but does mean that such will never be avoided for months on end. Any opponent who dares shall have his or her duel.
2. One of the Order of the Owl is a paragon of her convictions and will never fail to defend her ideals in word.
3. One of the Order of the Owl shall stand against any odds in the defense of her ideals, for Death comes to all, but principles are eternal.
The Order of the Owl will at all times maintain a commitment to the concepts of Truth and Duty. But the ephemeral ideals of the citystates do not define what Truth and Duty are. Our Duty is to Creation - not to one aspect of it. Our Truth is what we see and discover for ourselves.
The Order shall bear no titles as others do, for too often are such words a meaningless fixture rooted in nothing. Only the Order's actions shall define it.
Our castle is the forest of the Darkenwood, as fortresses of iron and stone all too often exist only to shelter an individual from the consequences of his or her actions. We embrace them.
We do not answer to the whims of other mortals. Instead, we simply are.
Please direct all complaints about the Order to someone who is not me, unless your complaint comes in the form of a blade or well-reasoned argument.
In Truth and Duty,
Farrah Roualt
of the Order of the Owl
