Cyrene,

Your decisions regarding Who owns your mountains and lake are yours to make, so long as Their soldiers can defend such claim, and the Aegeans have. The Aegeans - who have influence in many cities besides Cyrene - are not who we sought battle with, so we have ceased. You are quick to grandstand, but I do believe our Seneschal was simply providing you a courtesy by informing you of why your Patron's shrines are falling, and your pantheon crumbling to ruins. Cyrenians have asked. If the information so offends you, carry on and ignore it.

To the extent you deny that you have assaulted Hashani beggars and children, you simply spew falsity.

Our conflict has been a lengthy one. It began on Glacian 13, in the year 800 AF, when Cyrene declared that Hashani citizens were no longer welcome within its walls. It is strange that you vehemently deny seeking conflict with us, given that on Scarlatan 16, 835 AF, your city took the next step and named us one of two citystates deserving of destruction - moreso than even the crazed cultists of Oblivion. It is after this time that Cyrene, unsurprisingly, chose to target our young and poor, unwilling to risk the hardship that may face them if confronted with true soldiers.

These are not the only actions that provoked our increased aggression, however.

Your Imperiate has made very clear in public speeches that she opposes the very notion of working together with Hashani. She has chastised the Faith Recusant for allowing us membership in their clan, for example. In so doing, she seeks only to divide, rather than to unite as Cyrene claims is its goal. Interestingly, although she petitioned for our banning, she also petitioned for Ashtani to be permitted entry - always the proponent of Chaos.

In the course of her tirades, she and her other lackeys have slandered us, and made quite clear that despite all of Cyrene's proclamations, it has ill intent of its own: that Darkness has no place in her ideal world. We have been patient. We have attempted peace, even if not all of ours cherish it. The creation of monuments to War after our attacks began was only affirmation of Cyrene's lack of true interest in such.

Make no mistake, we do not need peace from you. We do not require acceptance. We will not bend or bow to make friends. To do so would be to defy who we are.

Progress cannot wait for waffling bureaucracy, stunting complacency, or timid conservatism. Mortalkind deserves better.

Thus will the Court of Shadows pave the way to a greater future for this world - one where ignorance is abhorrent and Truth reigns supreme, where knowledge brings greatness, and mastery of the world around us brings Progress - by will or by force.

In Darkness and in Progress,

Farrah Roualt
Regent of Hashan
Voice of Darkness

Penned by my hand on the 11th of Daedalan, in the year 845 AF.
