Mean-spirited rumours

Children of the East,

Dost my ears deceive me? When I stepped onto the rampart this morning I
swear I could hear the faint sound of wailing, the sweet gnashings of
teeth. Now far be it from me to indulge in petty gossip, but is it true
that your warriors are deserting en masse, falling over one another in a
mad race to escape a bankrupt political leadership?

Allow me to be the first to offer my deepest sympathies. Long have you
suffered beneath the weight of an ineffective bureaucracy, toiling to
create a cheerful society, a better world. Behold the fruits of
democracy! Are you cheerful? Are you better? I commend you that remain
for your sheer ability to weather disappointment. It speaks to the
sincerity of your commitment and the elasticity of your patience.

If you are truly as desperately-frustrated by the helplessness of your
do-nothing Council as I believe you to be, allow me to do the
compassionate thing, if just this once, and invite you to experience a
stronger society, a world built on real faith and true camaraderie.
There is another way, if you will but open yourselves to the experience.

I shan't press the point, my evangelism being entirely unnecessary. Your
friends are leaving, many have already left. You cannot change your
government or indeed you would have. But never, ever forget that you, as
individuals, hold the key to improving your deplorable circumstances.
Give not into despair but turn your eyes westward, where weaving
strength from sorrow has, and always will be, our specialty.

Invitingly,
