Lanfiara,
When we said good-bye and you walked away to the South East, I had no
idea that I would never get to speak to you again. Your untimely death,
at your own hands, has broken my heart and I just wanted to let you know
what a lasting impact you have made on my life here.
You found a way to get to really know who I am, not the partial me that
the rest of the world only knows. I really loved your attitude on life,
and how sure you were of yourself that you could accomplish anything you
ever wanted, and more. I'm going to miss having you around, to say the
least. Dun will never be the same without you running around following
me. I'm going to miss the way you used to sneak up on me and secretly
place shards in my inventory. I'm going to miss the way you truly had a
concern for my well-being, and I'm just going to miss you, Lanfiara. You
were as good of a friend as anyone could have ever asked for.
When we last spoke, you talked to me about my life, and what you thought
I could be, and more so, what I already am. That is just so like you...
always more concerned with others than yourself. I wish I would have
seen that you were dying inside, Lanfiara. I wish I could have known
that your life was drawing near its' end.
I want you to know that I will keep good on my promises to you. You told
me to be a better father to my children, to listen to them, to be with
them because they need me. You are right.. I have not been a great
father lately. I've been more concerned with myself than I have been
with them. I will find a way to change this, to be the father that they
need, and that I want to be. Though no bloodline will ever show record
of it Lanfiara, you will always be my daughter. Even in your final rest,
I will love you as if you were my own flesh and blood.
You told me to be a better husband to my wife. You helped show me that
just "being there" does not mean that I am there for her. I need to give
more of myself to her as well, to let her know what she really means to
me and that I need her to be in my life forever, as she is the world in
which I live in.
As far as the other things you told me I should be.. the things I wish
not to repeat here, I just want you to know that I will. One day, should
your soul ever find it's way back here and stumble upon this letter, I
hope she will Honours me and see that I made it. When I do make it,
Lanfiara, I'll have you to thank.
Finally, the last promise that you begged me to keep, the one you made
me promise to as we both had tears in our eyes... I'm headed there now,
Lanfiara. I'm going to find those in need that you left behind. They
will not hurt again as you had to.
I'm sorry I was never your Knight in Shining Armour, ready to save the
day when you were at your time in need. I just could not be that, Lanfi.
Sometimes, I wonder if the role was in fact reversed, and you were the
one that saved me from myself a time or two. Gods, I will miss you.
You truly were one in a million.
