quiet thoughts

Once more, my feet have brought me here
Against the wishes of my mind
The ocean, cliff... the sky - so clear...
The beauty that could cure the blind
This place of happiness and sadness
Where my old life I left behind -
I come again, in my new madness
To think of days when life was kind
To think of days when I was younger -
When innocence was mine to hold...
To think when lives weren't torn asunder
When I stood proud, true, and bold
No more - with innocence's swift passage
I learned the truth of life and love
The Gods have given me Their message
T'was not delivered by a dove...
Instead, the cruel twists of fate
Send me a present, that when given
Brought me great joy - and then... too late
The truth was seein too late for leaving
How could a love so pure, so true
So passionate in its intentions
Demand a price so high as due
I sit in quiet contemplation
I stopped my fight so long ago
And quietly, I am accepting
What I have done dictates the flow
Of my life's path. Fate's unrelenting.
I made my choice long years ago
No use to think now what would happen
Had I exchanged the yes for no
The trap slammed shut, my heart thus trapping.
My heart is bleeding now, and yet
I cannot change my way of being
Much as I wish I might forget
The meories come back unbidden...
I gaze out to the ocean's depth
And wish I could be free among
The frothy waves, the wind's wild fest
To join in mermaids' happy song...
But I cannot be free again...
My heart is bound, as am I.
Regretfully, I turn to pain...
And happiness - which also cannot die.
Great happiness through sparkling tears
Great joy that shines through years of pain
Great light to banish all my fears
Great love that bid me to remain.
Penned by my hand on the 19th of Phaestian, in the year 281 AF.
