A Sorrowful Melody

It was just another day as was any other
When relics began missing after another
Gone was the Huskmaker and gone the Braid
Yet none could fathom where they'd been laid

At the rise of that new mysterious tune
Undead rose from crypts beneath Azdun
Those we knew, lived, fought alongside
Became missing neath the unholiest tide

At that came the rising subtle lilting of flute
As Undead Sergeants had us wish they were mute
Within the Underworld was found Slith the maestro
Who fled before the Light's scimitars final blow

Yet as with the box, once it was unlocked
Emerged a haunting melody that was wrought
Khalas the Wanderer, may He have eternal rest
Brought from His statue at Earthshaker's behest

One who chose to flee, one who at last was freed
Yet there was a third who orchestrated the deed
From centuries ago with the War of Humanity tried
Within the recesses He had deigned to ever abide

Across the world, memories of threads wove tapestry
Haunting, Divine, suffering, a new distraught memory
Rising and falling yet at last a plan was now made
To the Chapel of All Gods! The call for all laid

To venture forth as they could fight at their best
While the death toll rose and with it Khalas at rest
The hour tolled and with Slith no longer such a foe
Just one more to end and it was Pazuzu who had to go

A touch of Memory and to Shallam the song rose high
The melody interwoven of with drumbeats and a sigh
To tend the Flame! To slay the enemy generals!
Fire that cannon! Quick! Supply more minerals!

Rain from on high as those below were turned to ash
The waters now rose and those drowning had to thrash
Silence! A poignant moment in the symphony to flow
Then a building, blood soaked, ever lethal crescendo

A crash as of cymbals and the mortals told to rest
The Divine would take over as They cornered Him best
Pazuzu tried many things yet for Him the war was over
His life was taken as mortals went home to recover

The symphony of the War was over yet its memory lingers
For those who fought alongside whether friend or strangers
Now the war is over and there is a break for many at last
Even while they hold the memories of what happened fast

Penned by my hand on the 13th of Aeguary, in the year 930 AF.
