Monsieur Jackalope

Oh Monsieur Jackalope!
How doth thou quiver so?
In thy skin wrapped tight against thy body,
And in thy mind so hellish born?
Oh Monsieur Jackalope!
Thou hath courage interminable!
And yet thou hath a streak of yellow upon thy spine!
What is thy call?
Oh Monsieur Jackalope?
Doth thou know thy name itself?
For art thou not an elk?
Or doth thou be but tendermeat
For my own cooking shelf!
Oh Monsieur Jackalope!
Thy name, it doth deceive!
What now I know,
I knew not then!
The Monsieur Jackalhen!
