The Grinning Rabbit

Here walked a Fox
Through the woods to a meadow
In the distance at the edge
He saw a small shadow

Lifting his nose
To scent at the air
The Fox then determined
It was simply a hare

With eyes on the ground
The Fox made his way
Among the flowers and grass
In the meadow that day

Stalking a mouse
That scurried under a log
The Fox instead settled
For a nice fat frog

Hearing a rustle
The Fox turned his head
And jumped back like a cat
Filled up with dread

What is that face?
Stop making it, please
It's frightening to look at
Said the Fox with a wheeze

Staring in silence
A small Rabbit did sit
With a huge grin
That she just wouldn't quit

This Rabbit was different
Her smell was all wrong
Her fur was in patches
Her teeth were too long

Away with you, go!
I don't want your disease
The Fox was quite worried
Backing up, ill at ease

The Rabbit just stared
With that grin on her face
Eyes with leaked blood
Congealed into place

The Fox turned and ran
As fast as he could
Until stopping short
For in front, the Rabbit stood

With cloudy white eyes
And rotting dead skin
Always, always
With that infernal wide grin

Yelping in fright
Pure terror in his chest
The Fox's heart stopped
It was much too stressed

The sun remains shining
On a lush meadow
Somewhere in a forest
With a small shadow

An undead Rabbit
Still grinning today
She waits for another
That may come her way
