The hardest truths in life
Often come at a great price
Sheering away perceptions as a knife
Revealing to us that all is not nice

In springtime fight for survival begins
As each struggle to raise their own
In summer, heat and drought kill, a given
As the dust from the earth is westward blown

In the fall, when echoes out a mating call
All fall where battle's blood is known
Winter comes, the ice and snow begin to fall
The truth is then known... we are all alone

The hardest truths few can endure
Which is why many close their eyes
Thinking themselves safe and secure
Alone, however, once they open their eyes
