The Age of Black Woe: Part XVI

On the 21st of Miraman 924 AF, the worshippers of Light and Fire raised Atalkez Al'Jafri as an Avatar of Aurora and performed a sacrosanct rite upon the Isle of Polyargos.

With faith blossomed like a gilded rose, the radiant Avatar of the Dawn sacrificed his life in a distant expanse of Creation, bequeathing the essence of his Goddess unto one of Her most-prized treasures: a Greater Phoenix, blazing brighter than a sun. The Flame-wrought avian swooped downwards with a gale-force gust of sweltering heat, threatening to scour even the faithful of Targossas while they watched with awe as it took the scintillant motes of Light's very being into itself and soared across Yggdrasil's innumerable worlds.

Harrowing in its sheer titanic enormity, the resplendent plumage of the Greater Phoenix emerged over the Prime Material Plane, fanning out to rapidly shadow the entirety of Sapience in a veil of sacred fire. The Chaos-hungering avian descended low, shaking mountains, forests, cities, and villages with its flight. It even burnt a handful of the Eldritch Empire's warriors to ash as pure Primordial Flame scoured the lands. And then, at the behest of a single wingbeat, it flew upwards, soaring higher and higher until the bird of legend opened its unimaginable span within the heavens proper, and darkness was abided no more. Snaking tendrils of purest light girded the sky from horizon to horizon, the Daystar pale before the sheer proximity of such enormous, living flame.

Unleashing a cry that echoed across the breadth of Creation, the conflagrant avian departed the Prime Material Plane in a ripple of white-hot and searing orange fire, soaring to a distant world for a purpose revealed only to the pious Targossians who summoned it.

In the wake of the Phoenix's flight over Sapience, the Vigil assaulted the Isle of Polyargos. Cultists, assassins, and bladesworn drenched the volcanic sands in blood at the command of Sarava Axor, but the sanguine worshippers had another ace up their sleeve: the Staff of Celestia.

Clenched in the hand of the unholy Haemomancer, the once-sacred relic glowed as a corrupt beacon of Woe's malevolence. Tainted flames fell upon the warriors of the Dawnspear and the Sapients who had rallied behind them, burning all to stinking ash in a mockery of purification. Until, at last, with the Avatar of Light in the fray of battle, they once again drove the scarlet Sorceress back from whence she came, reclaiming the Staff of Celestia for Targossas.

Summary: Targossas raised an Avatar of Aurora and commanded a Greater Phoenix to the continent of Sapience in an effort to aid the Lightbringer. Soon after, the Vigil assailed the Dawnspear with a corrupted Staff of Celestia but were ultimately beaten back, allowing the staff to return to Targossas.

Penned by My hand on the 13th of Scarlatan, in the year 924 AF.
