It was in the dead of night on the 23rd of Phaestian, in the year 470
AF, when two injured companions, a doctor and a nurse, set out from the
Northern Vashnars. When they found themselves a good distance from the
mountains, they bade farewell to each other and parted ways, promising
to do what they could to reveal their secret to any who would hear it.

Meanwhile, Doctor Kortoxian was observed asking around Mhaldor for a
city official. Ranzou Weltsdown-Vallah was there to hear his words, and
the two spoke of Kortoxian's wishes. Still owed a debt by the city after
his aid to them in the past, he asked that some troublesome individuals
be eliminated for him, namely, a doctor and a nurse. His contacts
believed they had headed toward Cyrene, but knew no more.

Ranzou agreed to help, as the task was simple, and left with several
other Mhaldorians, including Kellonius and Sabiru. They tracked down the
wounded doctor with ease, cutting him down where he stood, and reported
back to Kortoxian. The nurse, however, was nowhere to be found, despite
a thorough search of the Southern Vashnars.

While the followers of Evil combed the mountains near Cyrene, the nurse
stumbled towards Shallam, trailing blood behind her. She persevered,
however, despite the private attempts of Sabiru to convince her that the
doctor was safe and that he wanted her to come to Cyrene. His words only
frightened her more, for the doctor had insisted she must reach the City
of Light.

A group of Shallamites was gathered at Fish street when she approached.
To Ellodin, Azor, Rocknar, and Kruellagh, the nurse explained in
panicked tones about an experimental asylum in the Northern Vashnars and
Kortoxian's plans to cover it up. She brought to light the asylum
doctors' original beliefs that what they were doing was for the best (a
concept heavily encouraged by Kortoxian), and a later uprising by the
asylum inmates. Finally, she insisted they accompany her to the
mountains to confirm the asylum's existence and ensure it would never be
forgotten.

As the Shallamites journeyed to the site of the institution, Kortoxian
was persuaded to mention the Northern Vashnars as the beginning of the
nurse's flight by Charn, giving the Mhaldorians further clues to
continue their search. Too late, however, they came upon their
destination, only to find Doctor Kortoxian's secret already revealed:
the loathsome Creville Asylum.
