Weary footsteps and sorrow-filled sighs rang through the silence of the
Northreach in the early days of Chronos, and it was within these
darkened eaves that Aeval, Grignor, and Semfir came across a distraught
explorer. This young dwarf named Elawhe Greyfounder, they would
discover, had travelled many miles, crossing Northern Sapience in a
desperate search for aid.
Wracked with despair and utter exhaustion, Elawhe was at first barely
able to utter a word. Those gathered quickly offered up comfort and
nourishment, the priest Semfir calling for a rite of well-being to heal
her. Her thirst quenched with ale and appetite whetted with mutton and
fruit, the dwarf found herself restored and finally able to tell her
story.
To the attentive ears of Aeval, Shomaragu, Semfir, Galatia, Eldesa,
Conor, Nyfari, Taril, and many others who had come to hear her tale,
Elawhe began to haltingly recall a dark grey place of stone and ruin,
nestled deep within the mountains of Northern Sapience and teeming with
hideous forms of half-life. Worse, trapped within the horrifying place
was her companion Torgath Shalecutter, injured and unable to fend for
himself.
Before Elawhe could even utter the words to beg the assistance of the
Achaeans collected around her, it was offered to her. Several intrepid
Achaeans, notably the kind Shomaragu, the resourceful Conor, and the
charismatic Nyfari, all selflessly agreed to do whatever needed to be
done in order to retrieve Torgath from the bowels of the ruinous
complex.
There was no time to waste. Equipped with only Elawhe's exhaustion-
addled memories as to the ruins' whereabouts, the group swiftly
departed, heading deep into the wilderness. Past the forests of Rheodad
and Inbhir Ness, the group come finally to the cold stone-bound Ruins
of Morindar, nestled within a darkened mountain gorge beyond where the
Wall of Power had last to cartographers' maps been seen. Why or how the
Wall has receded further north remains a mystery.
Independent scouts had roamed ahead of the rescue party, and Grignor was
the first of these to enter Morindar. Delphinus's clever eye found the
hidden entrance into the lower cavern level of the ruins, and it was
Taril who puzzled out the way into the crypts that extended deeper
still. The caverns and crypts proved dangerous indeed, swarming with
half-dead creatures of darkness and decay, but the large rescue party
was enough to meet any challenge.
Striking boldly out on his own within the crypts, Hyano quickly located
Torgath, who lay incapacitated with a broken leg near a strange
sarcophagus. With great joy and relief, Elawhe attended to her beloved,
while Hyano helped Torgath to repair his broken leg. The couple
reunited, all that remained was to return the young explorers to their
estranged home of Inbhir Ness, which they had left after argument with
the village leadership. With the continued assistance of their Achaean
companions, Elawhe and Torgath were happily restored to their home and
the good graces of Inbhir's chief.
Penned by my hand on the 14th of Chronos, in the year 409 AF.
