Images and the Mirror - Confusion Runs Amok on Sapience!
--------------------------------------------------------
A mirror, linked to the appearance of some hundreds or even thousands of
'images' across Sapience, has been restored, and a threat to all of the
realms has been averted!
Brought on, some say, by the recent destruction of the mirror in
Polyargos, a blight has recently darkened the land of Sapience. Mirror
images, some said numbering in the hundreds, have recently swarmed
across our lands, bringing with them confusion and fear.
In the midst of this confusion, allegedly brought on by some sort of
failed experiment by the mysterious conclave, new developments have
brought us closer to an answer. Or have they?
Maim was recently spotted after having slain the swamp witch Haag.
Apparently Maim found Haag running through Thera with items used to
influence the landmarks. Maim was later spotted hovering near the
now-deceased recluse wizard Hycanthus' corpse as well.
Another purported member of the mysterious 'Conclave', the ice wizard
Maklak, must have realized his danger. He began moving towards the
mirror on Polyargos, now broken, only to be intercepted by Maim while in
Delos. Dragon-monk Blaise and Proficy stepped in, ending or at least
delaying Maim's slaughter of the conclave members.
After explaining that Maim was jealous of their power, Maklak left to
finish his task, whatever that was, following close behind the Shaman
O'ising.
Maklak and O'ising came together at the now ruptured mirror, a meeting
witnessed by many. There, they were seen to drop various landmarking
items into the pool, with interesting, if undefinable, results.
Many residents of Sapience discussed the acts and words of Maklak and
O'ising (and Haag and Hycanthus and Maim).
A substantial number determined to aid these conclave members and began
bringing landmarking items in the hope that this would somehow prevent
the the endless stream of Mirror images that were plaguing the populace
of the land.
Others spoke against helping the wizards, saying that more should be
learned first, but their voices were drowned out by the multitude
clamoring to aid the members of the conclave.
Eventually all the items made it into the pool. After a moment of
silence a resounding clap of thunder echoed across the island, and a
small tremor shook the area near the mirror as the energies of the
mirror begin to fade. The mirror was sealed.
Maklak commented briefly, explaining that now that the mirror was
sealed, the energies would fade away and the images would begin to die
out. He then proceeded to dismiss everyone so he could return to his
keep in the north.
Further discussion availed little, though the results of the sealing of
the mirror were obvious enough - the flow of images had come to a halt.
Little is known of this conclave and its involvement in the experiments
involving the landmarks, despite their rather unpleasant criticisms of
the fine people of Sapience who they blamed for causing the problem in
the first place by interrupting their earlier ritual.
In addition, several hints were let slip about a powerful master,
perhaps the leader of this secretive organization? Who this master is,
and what his true motives are, remains to be seen.
Penned by my hand on the 4th of Lupar, in the year 342 AF.
