What we need from each guild is the following:
1) What you wish your Head of Novices position to be called. Just talk
to your patron about that.
2) A HELP GUILDNOVICES <your guild> file. Only the patron can enter it,
but we expect that guildmasters will want to write it, or appoint
someone else to do it.
3) Let us know if you want to have your GNT channel name customized. For
instance, the Sentinels could call it 'cubs' so that people would see:
(Cubs): Covenant says, "I luv you Sarapis!". You have to contact me
personally about the GNT thing. If you don't customize it (which is
fine. Don't do it unless it's really a good name.) then it will default
to 'Novice'.
I trust that these changes should really largely alleviate any
complaints people had about the new novice system. The novices can't do
anything, even see which members of the guild are online (unless those
members are aides to the Head of Novices), but you can see they are
there, and you know they are waiting to become a full member of your
guild.
What I'd suggest that guilds do is treat novicehood as kind of an
in-between stage. They aren't really a part of the guild yet, but they
are signed up to be part of it. Using the GUILD PROMOTE command is
really the equivalent of inguild before.
I am thinking about ways to limit ab help file access to those abilities
you actually have, but due to the way these were done, it's not as easy
as it sounds like it should be (or I would have done it years ago).
Penned by my hand on the 6th of Daedalan, in the year 281 AF.
