The archivists of the Lucretian Athenaeum have announced two new
services, along with a change in the manner of checking books in and
out.

First, the services:
- COPY - to copy an existing MANUSCRIPT or JOURNAL (only). The existing
volume must be SEALED already (see below). The cost of the COPY service
includes the newly-copied volume.

- SEAL - to seal an existing MANUSCRIPT or JOURNAL (only). This means
that it will no longer be possible to write in or change the contents
of the volume.

Second, the change to checking in and out:
- For borrowers: use CHECKOUT <volume> (or LIBRARY CHECKOUT <volume>).
You may no longer simply try to pry the book off the shelf.
Use CHECKIN <volume> (or LIBRARY CHECKIN <volume>) to return the item.
NOTE: To check out, you must be present where the volume may be seen.
To check in, you may be anywhere at all. And if you forget to
check in by the due time, the volume returns itself!

- For librarians and owners: also use CHECKOUT or CHECKIN, as above, to
check volumes in or out. For placing books in circulation, simply put
them into the bookcase or bookshelf of your choice. Take volumes from
their current bookshelf or case when you wish to withdraw.

Penned by my hand on the 23rd of Phaestian, in the year 396 AF.
