Jewelry and Piercing!

After some laboring, I've added a new skill to Achaea: Jewelry. I've
also changed the way Tailoring works to some extent.
HELP JEWELRY will tell you about Jewelry. Note that it also contains the
ability to do piercings. HELP BODYPIERCING will tell you more about
that. Note also that at Trans you can engrave (which formerly required a
500 credit quill of engraving).
Further, note that Trans tailors now can embroider (formerly the 500
credit embroidering needle). We've ceased to sell the engraving quill
and embroidering needle.
Now, you're also going to find that all jewelry decays now. Letting
people make (or even buy in any great amount) non-decaying things is
Very Bad for Achaea in the sense that the more things we have, the
slower the game runs and the longer backups take. The good news is that
the decay time for constructed jewelry can be over a year of real-time.
I've also destroyed most NPC-sold jewelry and most (not all) clothes.
You'll find that your city clothing shops sell a very limited selection
of pretty boring clothes now. The idea is to ensure that player tailors
are required to make anything cool.
Tailors: You're going to notice that it now costs gold to sew each
individual garment, with the amount of gold required being dependent on
the prestige. This is to simulate the fact that a simple shirt would be
a lot cheaper to produce than some ornate frilly thing made out of
lion's skin or what have you.
Jewelers: You're going to find that picking up jewelry patterns is
pricey and that crafting a piece of jewelry is even pricier. The top-end
jewelry will cost over 100,000 gold to craft. The idea here is that
everybody not be running around with super-fancy outfits and jewelry.
Expensive stuff should not be so common in the sense that it's actually
expensive now rather than just pretending to e expensive. =)
There may very well be some bugs with Jewelry and Tailoring now as I've
been doing a ton of work on them the last few days to get them working
as I want them to be working. You'll also find that there's more
interaction between types of clothes and visibility now. For instance,
nipple piercings won't show up if you have a shirt or bra on, but if you
have just a bra on a navel piercing will show. Same with toe rings and
shoes, etc.
If you DO find bugs with Tailoring or Jewelry in the next few days,
please message me directly about them so that I can fix them while it's
all fresh in my mind.
Oooh, there's also three new types of commodities (all of them
Riftable): platinum (found on Ulangi), gems (found in Moghedu), and
polished bone (found in the caveman village in the Dun Valley).
Enjoy!
