17.4.3 ROULETTE

Roulette is one of the simpler forms of gambling, but many find it enjoyable and addictive nonetheless.

The game is played using a horizontal wheel divided into sections numbered 1-36, 0, and 00. 0 and 00 are green, and the rest of the numbers are divided evenly into red and black. The attendant will set the wheel spinning and toss a small ball onto the outside track of the spinning wheel. Each numbered section of the wheel has a pocket for the ball, and the winning bets are determined by which section the ball ends up in.

There are many different kinds of bets you can place in roulette, and you may continue to place as many bets as you like until the ball falls into a pocket (though there is a limit on how much total gold you can wager per spin). Bets are placed using a table with 0 and 00 at the top, and 1-36 arranged in rows of 3.

Using the BET command (just the one word!) in a room with a roulette wheel will show this table. If you have MXP enabled, BET <amount> GOLD will even show a clickable version of the table that can be used to place any bet listed below!

Inside Bets

Inside bets are those placed on numbers directly or on the lines and corners between columns and rows of numbers.

Place inside bets by simply listing the numbers:
   To place a 2,000 gold split bet on 8 and 11, do BET 2000 GOLD ON 8 11
   To place a 50,000 gold basket bet, do BET 50000 GOLD ON 0 00 1 2 3

The inside bets are:

Straight up
   Place your bet directly on a number. If it comes up, payout is 35 to 1.
Split
   Place your bet on the line between two numbers. If either number comes up,
   payout is 17 to 1.
Street
   Place your bet on the edge of a row. If one of the three numbers comes up,
   payout is 11 to 1.
Corner
   Place your bet on the corner between four numbers. If one of the four numbers
   comes up, payout is 8 to 1.
Basket
   Place your bet on the corner at the top. If 0, 00, 1, 2, or 3 come up, payout
   is 6 to 1.
Six line
   Place your bet on an edge corner. If one of the six numbers comes up, payout
   is 5 to 1.

Outside Bets

Outside bets cover a larger number of sections with higher odds and lower payouts.

Place outside bets by simply naming the bet:
   To place a 2,000 gold bet on the 3rd 2:1, do BET 2000 GOLD ON 3rd 2:1
   To place a bet of 50,000 gold on red, do BET 50000 GOLD ON RED

The outside bets are:

1st/2nd/3rd 2:1
   Each of these bets covers one column of the betting table. If any of the
   twelve numbers comes up, payout is 2 to 1.
1st/2nd/3rd 12
   Each of these bets covers four rows of the betting table. If any of the
   twelve numbers comes up, payout is 2 to 1.
Red
   This bet covers the red numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 21, 23,
   25, 27, 30, 32, 34, 36). Payout is 1 to 1.
Black
   This bet covers the black numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22,
   24, 26, 28, 29, 31, 33, 35). Payout is 1 to 1.
Even
   This bet covers the even numbers in 1-36. Payout is 1 to 1.
Odd
   This bet covers the odd numbers in 1-36. Payout is 1 to 1.
1st/2nd 18
   If any of the eighteen numbers comes up, payout is 1 to 1.
