9.37.9.1 Artistry Design
See also HELP CRAFTING GUIDELINES
Having gained the Artistry skill (see HELP ARTISTRY for instructions on how to do so), you are now ready to start conceptualising your masterpiece!
Below is a comprehensive guide from start to finish on how to design and eventually create a piece of artwork, including any and all relevant rules and guidelines to ensure your design matches Achaea's standard of writing and acceptable content.
To quickly get started in artistry, you will need to find a piece of art to prime and embellish!
Use NDS LISTPUBLIC A to see all public artistry designs. Select one you like, and use NDS P <design#> to examine it in further detail.
Materials will be taken directly from your rift if not in your hands, and so long as you are in possession of enough to cover the design requirements, you may PRIME <design#> to create the base canvas.
Mediums and other materials are created by inkmillers, using the SUPPLIES ability. Then you can begin the Embellishment process!
But this is not all!
Once you achieve the level of Adept in the artist's craft, you will gain the coveted ability to design artwork of your own!
To design your own piece of art, visit the Artistry annex in Delos and purchase the canvas type that best matches the type of artwork you want to design.
Artistry Syntaxes
-----------------
PRIME <NDS ID#> [passcode]
- Construct a canvas from an approved NDS listing.
- For more information on passcodes, see HELP NDS
For A Mural (Player housing only)
- With a plaster housing upgrade applied to a location
(See HELP HOUSING UPGRADES)
- PRIME <NDS ID#> (This must be explicitly a mural.)
- This is limited to one per room.
PROBE <canvasID>
- See how many embellishments remain before the piece of art is complete.
EMBELLISH <canvasID>
- Embellish the design upon the canvas.
- Canvas must be in inventory or in the same location as the artist.
- This is a channel that will tick through your available artistry sessions.
- This will end when you use the stop command.
- This will end when the artwork is completed.
- This will end when you run out of artistry sessions.
- This will drain willpower and endurance while embellishing continues.
- STOP at any time to cancel this process.
- The piece of art is finished when the required number of artistry
sessions have been completed!
For A Mural
- Be in the room with a mural in progress and EMBELLISH <mural#>
DESIGN CREATE <canvas>
- Apply the details of your chosen canvas to your sketch
- This will determine commodities needed to Prime the work of art.
- This will assign the base name and type of the item. E.G "mural", or
"canvas".
- This will not consume your canvas.
Different canvas types may have medium restrictions:
Locket - oilpaint and ink.
Canvas - oilpaint, watercolour, charcoal, chalk, pastel, ink.
Wood - oilpaint, charcoal, chalk, pastel, ink.
Slate - chalk, charcoal, pastel.
Parchment - ink, watercolour, charcoal, pastel.
Mural - oilpaint, charcoal.
Silk - oilpaint, ink.
DESIGN <sketch> COPY <canvas>
- Apply the details of your chosen canvas to an existing sketch
- This will determine commodities needed to Prime the work of art.
- This will assign the base name and type of the item. E.G "mural", or
"canvas".
- This will not consume your canvas.
DESIGN <sketch> APPEARANCE <description>
- Sketch out the appearance description for your piece of art.
Note: Max of 50 characters.
- The Appearance is the short description visible in WARES, in INV, and
seen with IH.
- Commas are not permitted in the Appearance of crafted items.
- This should begin with a lowercase letter and NOT end in a full stop.
- This must feature the name of the canvas type as a main noun.
- Examples are: 'a canvas depicting the Zaphar' and
'a locket insert featuring Skye'.
- This should not be a full sentence.
- Do not include actions or reactions, simply what the item is.
- Capital letters can be included in appearances, please title works
appropriately with correct capitalisation.
DESIGN <sketch> DROPPED <description>
- The dropped description is what is seen via LOOK when your item is
dropped in a location.
- This must be ONE complete sentence that begins with a capital letter
and ends with a full stop.
Note: Max of 80 characters.
- Describe just the item, not possible player reactions or actions.
- No superfluous punctuation (question marks, exclamations, etc.)
- The main noun in the sentence must be the same as the canvas type so
that people know what to call it when they want to interact with it.
- This line should be appropriate bearing in mind that most artwork can only
be dropped in player-based housing, and locket inserts will not be in a
locket if seen on the ground.
DESIGN <sketch> EXAMINED <description>
- This is what people see when an item is examined/probed.
- This should only describe the item, no subjective terms, reactions,
opinions, emotions, or responses.
- Use at least two full sentences.
- Must begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop.
- This must feature the main noun of the item.
- Do not try to format your descriptions in the editor. When using the
editor put your entire description on line one. The editor will properly
format it for you.
- Designs must be something an artist can reasonably depict.
Intangible concepts will need creative interpretation to convey, you
cannot simply paint the majesty of the Logos, this will need to be
conveyed via the medium. ALWAYS SHOW DO NOT TELL.
- Do not "evoke" or tell the reader what sense/emotion/impression your
design gives. ALWAYS SHOW DO NOT TELL.
- Artists are not enchanters, magic is not permitted in crafted designs.
- Designs should describe the item, not the onlooker, use of "you" and "your"
is prohibited.
- Text is prohibited, while this may seem obtuse, your writing must convey
an image, no written work.
- Single spacing only.
- Do not use words that require accents or other non-English punctuation,
these cannot be replicated in Achaea and will be treated as misspellings.
E.G: Applique would require an acute accent over the e.
- Feet, inches, yards, etc, no metric measurements.
- Please use a GB English spellcheck and the Oxford comma. Achaea does not
use American spelling.
- There are children in Achaea, keep your artwork tasteful.
DESIGN <sketch> PRIVATE ON|OFF
- At a cost of 1000gp you can hide your designs from others when they do
NDS MATCH searches. This flag may be set on the sketch or after approval
with the corresponding NDS command.
DESIGN <sketch> HIDEMARK ON|OFF
- At the cost of 1000gp you can hide the crafters mark. This means that
when the crafted item is probed it will not show the line saying "It
bears the distinctive mark of "".
