13.4.2 PROFICIENCIES

With this ability, you specialise in certain classes of weapon such as the
longsword, broadsword, javelin, halberd, flail, and others. In order to gain
proficiency, first seek out someone with the knowledge to teach you that
specific weapon (HELP PROFICIENCY TEACHERS). Proficiencies cost 100 lessons
each.

To learn a weapon proficiency:

  LEARN PROFICIENCY IN <weapon name> FROM <proficiency-teacher>.

After you have given your lessons to the teacher, you must go out and practice
with the weapon you are seeking proficiency in. Simply go out and use the
weapon as it was intended and eventually you will master it.

Proficiencies based on Class

Some classes gain proficiencies automatically, at no cost, as follows:

Bards        rapiers
Druids       quarterstaves
Infernals    * based on Weaponmastery specialisation
Jesters      blackjacks and daggers
Paladins     * based on Weaponmastery specialisation
Priests      maces
Runewardens  * based on Weaponmastery specialisation
Sentinels    handaxes plus either spears or tridents
Serpents     whips
Sylvans      quarterstaves
