Why Chaos?

It is very natural for everyone to have their own ideals. Our realm has been blessed with so many ideas and beliefs that we have much to choose from. We have our great, ever-debating opposites, Good and Evil! Good, with it's righteous teachings of love and kindness, and high expectations of conformity, or Evil, with its orderly teachings of power and dominance over the weak. Or perhaps Peace and War... non-violence as opposed to much violence. Or Light and Darkness, even. I will not delve too deeply into any of these realms, as I am not the expert on most of them, and don't wish to offend anyone. For the record, the majority of the statements in this post are my own beliefs, and are not meant as offensive remarks to anyone of any belief system. The idea I'm proposing to you all today is that of Chaos. Why Chaos? That is what I am intent on explaining.
Let's start with a bit of background. Eris is the Goddess of Chaos. While it's true SHE is sleeping at the moment, Chaos itself never sleeps! Chaos is surrounding us every day. We can try to close our eyes and pretend it's not there, but we will never succeed. I would like to define Chaos in terms that will be easy for everyone to understand, but that is easier said than done. The best I can tell you is this: Chaos is non-aligned. It can be Good or Evil or Neutral or Light or Dark or Peaceful or Warring or some, all, or none of those things, and more. (I left out many realms in that explanation, having chosen a few for example purposes, but it could include any conceivable realm.) Chaos is a combination of both creation and destruction, and holds different meaning for everyone.
"But Lemon!" People ask me regularly, "Isn't Chaos just the opposite of Order? Why should we embrace confusion and irregularity when Order keeps us in a state of contented normality?" "No, no!" I tell them. "Order is nothing more than an illusion, set forth by something I like to call 'organized Chaos'." You see, Chaos leaves you with any and all possibilities, and Order is just one of your possible choices. So you can choose Order as your way of balancing yourself, but do not close your eyes to the fact that Mr. Order is doing nothing more than marching around in circles on old Mother Chaos's outstretched palm.
One of the nice things about Chaos is that we aren't promoting hypocrisy. We allow freedom of speech, action, and most importantly, thought. Chaos is a natural state of being. As mortals, we are doomed to be confused for most or all of our lives. A follower of Chaos can comprehend the fact that confusion is a positive thing. Confusion is what makes us ask questions, and gain knowledge. And I once read in a very wise book that "Chaos is the root of all confusion."
As a belief or ideal, Chaos is very consuming, self-strengthening, and satisfying. As more than a belief or ideal, Chaos is with us in whatever we do. We ourselves are Chaos. It is very easy to place your faith in something that you understand and are sure of, but to rest your faith with something like Chaos that challenges and confuses you is accepting a life of open-mindedness and many possibilities.
As I am only mortal, after all, it is quite probable that I have left many things out of this post. For further information, questions, or comments regarding the nature of Chaos and its position in our lives, do not hesitate to contact me for debate or discussion.
Let yourself be open to enlightenment through the teachings of holy Chaos!
