I think most of us are smart enough to accept that we're being "used". As we benefit from it as well, quite simply, we don't care.

Sartan is one of my favorite Gods because he does not try to deceive his followers. He does not tell them, you are a beautiful and unique snowflake, I love, etc. He says, you are pathetic compared to me, but follow me and you may become stronger. And that is the truth, those who follow him quite often do become stronger. Very straightforward, the sort of thing I believe that Shallam and the Elysians lack. Because Elysians, you are not unique, and your God's love or lack of it will do little to protect you. In the end, your relation to Pentharian is almost the exact same to the relation Sartan's followers have with him. You plot your battles, fight his wars, you die, you get favoured for victories.
