So much space on these boards recently have been devoted to
the argument of whether or not true peace is attainable.
Perhaps a more worthwhile argument, and certainly one which
should precede the current discussion is whether true peace
is a desirable end.
Consider the effects of the state of war. Business in herb,
armaments, elixirs, and venoms prosper. The citizens of
opposing sides have causes to believe and fight for, reason
to get out of bed, a reason to live.
Now consider the state of peace. In such a scenario, very
likely there is no need for commerce, except limited trade
in agriculture. Business' fail, and the citizenry grows
lethargic and bored with the monotonous reality of mundane
life.
This does not even take into consideration the effects the
weak, who have lived because of a lack of war, have on the
general populace. The weakling farmer is allowed to hold
land which could be used by a strong farmer to reap greater
yields. Idiots flood the scholastic circles, creating a
lack of new ideas and cultural developments.
Overall, the state of war allows for the disentegration of
civilization. Now then, why do you fight for peace?
