Forcing is non violent?

Could someone explain to me how it is possible to force someone to return an object with non-violent means? Forcing is by nature having someone do something he would not do by either physical or mental means.

Using physically means is obviously violent as one could get hurt. Using mental means is also violent as one needs to break in someones mind/self control to do so.

So please, try not to excuse some actions by saying they are non-violent when they obviously are...
