Knighthood for me, but not for thee

Written by: Sir Arador Aristata, Qavhreshith of the Rite

Chivalry and honour are about dedicating oneself in service of one's allegiance in a respectful, valiant and fair manner. Nothing more. Knighthood is not reserved for the goals and causes you agree with. Nothing within Chivalry or Honour speaks to faction allegiance.

I bothers me not in the slightest that Sir Archaeon might want to see reality destroyed when it comes to my evaluation of him as a Knight. It will always be his conduct in pursuing that goal that has to testify to his worthiness of the title. I lose no sleep that Sir Aodfionn might want to see civilisation revert to tree houses and no indoor plumbing. When I decide if I should salute him as a peer, I only care how he conducts himself on and off the battlefield.

Knighthood has nothing to do with our mission and everything to do with how we perform it. I know not where this ridiculous idea came from that Knights have to be good or kind or compassionate. Knight are warriors in service to their cause. What sets them apart is their persistent effort to be respectful and fair to their allies and their enemies. They might not always be perfect, no mortals are. But no matter how horrid you might find the faction or goal they have aligned themselves with, that will never be a reason to question their right to the title.

So stop doing it. We are not living in some romance novel you enjoyed in your youth. Knights may arise from any faction. Be it Good, Evil, Death, Chaos, Nature, Progress or whatever Cyrene is. The Guild exists as a way they can cooperate and attempt to come to mutual understandings and agreements that preserve and encourage these ideals and traditions.

Sir Arador Aristata, Qavhreshith of the Infernal Rite

PS. My jest against Hashan was not included as it is still a work in Progress.

Penned by my hand on the 13th of Lupar, in the year 958 AF.
