Your understanding of the village seems to match your understanding of most things. The village has never closed its boughts except to those who bring harm to Her realm. Even those who fight us on the battlefield of conquest are not barred. More than likely, you wandered towards a forest at a time of a temporary binding and, as seems to be your wont, extrapolated this to something far beyond it's meaning.
