Imperiate Jarrob,
Just over 100 years ago Cyrene was conquered by the Tsol'teth. The city was destroyed. Many were killed, never to return. Even more lives were lost and more was destroyed to restore Cyrene to the Cyreniens. You've rebuilt the city, but it's not the same. It will never be the same.
However -
If you had the chance to strike against the Tsol'teth, and in doing so return those who died? To regain the parts of your city that are still broken, or missing, or not quite the same?
This is our grief. This is our pain. This is our drive to keep beating this same drum. You personally may not have been involved in the destruction of the Forest of Light, no living Cyrenien may have been involved, but the Forest of Light still lies dead beneath your streets. The crime belongs to Cyrene, the city, which has stood on the graves of countless dryads, animals, and plants for, as you admitted, at least a thousand years.
Lady Gaia once told us that She still hears the cries of those spirits.
And you offer up as solace that you planted a garden or two. That you have an orchard. That you have tamed and controlled some small amount of plantlife that you allow to live. As if these can silence the cries and echoing screams of souls who only seek to return through the Cycle of Life as many of us do countless times per month.
You, Imperiate Jarrob, did not commit this crime, but every month, every day, you have the chance to correct it. You have the chance to bring renewed life to the death Cyrene has caused.
And you don't.
