City relations

To the Senate of Cyrene,

When I requested to dissolve our non-aggression pact, it was in the interest of moving forward. You were correct in your letter to me that I may simply dissolve the pact and resume hostilities with your city. I chose to reach out instead in the interest of redefining the relationship between our cities, rather than just going back to how things were.

Thoughtlessly abiding by words on a decades-old piece of parchment simply because that's what it says to do is not the Hashani way. You asked that I post an acknowledgement and apology for Hashan's actions in support of the Tsol'teth during the most recent Black Wave, but I believe you are asking for the wrong thing.

Words cost nothing and mean almost the same. I can easily apologise for something I didn't take part in: I'm sorry for the Black Wave. I can promise I won't take part in future actions against the city, and then I can withdraw that promise when it's convenient for me.

Actions have meaning, and if you want assurances and a feeling of safety regarding Cyrene-Hashan relations, then actions are where you should look. Hashani fight alongside Cyrenese, Hashani have Cyrenese friends and family, many Hashani even came from Cyrene. These are better assurances than any piece of paper or news post will ever be.

If you are concerned about destruction and damage on the scale of the Black Wave, then your fears are probably misplaced. I have never been a friend to Cyrene, and I don't think that will change. I don't, however, want to see your city torn apart stone by stone and returned to Nature; I don't want to see your people enslaved to the Master of Evil. I only want to see our cities driven by our actions and not the insidious ennui of a stale treaty.
