Sacrifice

Sapience,

Some question why we would do what we have done. Some even call it hubris. This evidences a lack of understanding. It reveals a mindset common among us in which every action must be taken for our own preservation or our own comfort.

The defining characteristic of civilisation is selfishness. Mortals regularly seek to transform the world at large to serve their own ends, without regard for the greater picture. What we call "Nature" is the first world - the world before us. The world untarnished by us.

In Nature, all things are connected. Each individual part plays a role in the greater whole. Everything is cyclical. Life blossoms and dies. And the greater whole continues. It is sustainable and lasting, though each individual within it is not.

Many mortals strive to break away from this greater whole - from Life itself. They seek to escape Death and insodoing, destroy the balance of Life.

Mortals build walls for protection and to separate themselves entirely from Her realm. But they cannot live without Her. So they take and take from Her, whilst refusing to give anything back. This is not sustainable. It is not lasting. It defies the careful harmony that existed before us.

True sacrifice - not the farce promoted in the East by the Usurpers - is not about us. It is about preserving the greater whole so that Creation itself may thrive.

Eleusis stands without the comforts of civilisation because comfort is not and should not be our aim. We stand against all who would harm Her, as open to your attack as Her wilds. Because we stand for something greater than ourselves.

It is not hubris because we do not do it with the belief that we will not bleed for it. We simply do not care.

What is taken from Her will be returned, whether by us or by those we fight against.
