Dear Hierophant Harenae,
When I saw your declaration of intent for leadership in the leafy village, I was absolutely thrilled! I think it's so brave when a new face steps into the spotlight. I've certainly never heard your name before, but your announcement had the kind of confidence that reminded me of this young fellow who sold me on the healing virtues of snake oil once. I bought three whole cases of the stuff! I asked him for a delivery date and he said "before the Tundra melted," and that's got to be soon, right? He didn't smell that pleasant, either, and I am writing this close to the slave pens over by Red Square, so.
Anyway, I for one will be writing your name down when election month comes around. I will have to break into the Eleusis voting chambers to do so of course, but I climbed a yew sapling three years ago, so I think the Great Oak will be an absolute breeze. You know, I didn't think it was possible to be a Regent and a Hierophant at the same time, but you really do learn something new every day. I admit I was a bit hesitant at first, because I asked one of my fellow slaves what 'Progress' meant and he said it means you're a hawker of hokum, but you've made a believer out of me. Also, hawks are a part of Nature, right?
I've got to tell you, Heron, I think your campaign slogan could use a bit of work. I've done my fair share of scribing for the Ministry of Culture since my work-slave program began, and I just feel like there's something missing! 'Health, Happiness, Heart' -- the Eleusians can barely keep their own heads on their shoulders, so I don't think they're ready to start thinking about their hearts.
I asked that same fellow slave what he thinks you should run on, and he suggested this: 'Paragon, Pinnacle, Proliferation'. He says it's because you are a paragon of perfidy, the pinnacle of the commonness of the common man, amidst a Village preoccupied with proliferation.
I will be watching your Progress with avid interest, Harold, almost as avidly as I am waiting for that snake oil shipment.
