Loyalty and Mortality

Dear Sapience,

On the morning of 22nd of Glacian, 846 years after the fall of the
Seleucarian Empire..

Sothantos de l'Evanoir died.

Never to return from the halls of Curator.

Released from his oaths to the city of Targossas by the Lightbringer
Herself, he embarked on a path to continue to defend Creation. A path he
shared with many, a path he never left in his undying loyalty to the
Righteous Fire.

He was asked to break his oaths to Lord Deucalion. Demanded even. A feat
that would leave Him vulnerable given Sothantos was one of His vessels
and carried a part of His flame. Only Lord Deucalion could have released
him and returned his soul that was replaced by His flame.

Or Somebody else. Other Divine offered to help extract the part of the
Righteous Fire in him. He considered. Another Divine could keep it safe.
He deliberated.

One, ever the most opportunistic, crafted circumstances to lead Another
to believe of there being deception at play. The die was cast, a mortal
life hung in the balance of Divine ire.

The Lord's flame was in peril. This mortal's loyalty was in question. He
was faced with an impossible choice or let another be sacrificed in his
stead.

He chose to die than let His flame be taken. He chose to die and refused
the Curator than let his oaths be broken, his undying loyalty ending his
life for good.

He died as mortals do, but he will live on in our memories.

He was a friend, a teacher, a leader, and a life larger than most of us
can aspire to be. May he find happiness, and a purpose equally worth
pursuing in the next life, if there is one.
