The Lonely Mountain

There was once a tall mountain covered in stones,
Littered about it were crushed dreams and bones.
Tales told this mountain hid treasures at its peak,
And many adventurers did try to climb it and seek.
But the stones were many and proud indeed,
Determined to protect their identity.
Together they were taller than any could climb,
But it was single stones the adventurers would find.
Theyd crash downhill one after another,
Seeking to protect their towering mother.
When threat was gone a stone would claim,
It was their right to fortune and fame.
They were the ones who suffered and sustained,
While the mountain was the only one who had gained.
So the mountain would send them many a friend,
At the bottom they grew, an alarming trend.
As the years gave way and the bones piled high,
So did the hills below the mountains eye.
So many stones had sought their own name,
Separating into their own terrain.
The mountain was no longer seen as tall,
The peak only seen after the fall,
The tales of the treasure unheard in this day,
The stones, unknown, had carried it away.
