Distant Memories Beneath The Sunless Sky

The world is torn asunder
And distant Memories cut deep
Beneath this sunless sky, I wonder
Whether I shall ever weep
For a love, a life that could have been
Had you called me to your arms
Long ago, beneath the stars.

Once, I held you foremost in my heart
Your name, a song of worship on my lips
Your every move, an inspiration for my art
I laid my life and talents at your fingertips
And waited for a dream that never came
For though you had me, heart and soul
You never called me to your side
And I wondered then
If Love had lied.

But now it's much too late for you and I
Too late for whispered adorations
Beneath a moonlit sky
For despite the fickleness of hearts
The truth comes clearly:
Once, I gave you all that I could hope to be
All in vain, for you have never needed me.

And so I mourn beneath this blood-red sky
For a memory of a future
That has long since passed me by
But I've grown too old
And my heart too cold
To shed a tear
For the love, now lost
That I once held for you so dear.
