Memoriam

A tree stands
in eternal autumn

Gaze upon it and long for spring to come
(It will never come.)

But the roots grow deep, and thrumming with latent life,
they touch the soil, the deep,
The heart of Eleusis

in dormant brown, in ever-rest, they live, they
call us up
To be a tree

to live
to thrive
to serve
to help
to learn
to teach

Gaze upon it and long for spring to come
(It will never come.)
But what will our tree be?

Penned by my hand on the 25th of Aeguary, in the year 883 AF.
