Echoes

------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's an echo that haunts this place:
Drip drip drip drip, drop drop drop drop.
It breaks the silence on and on.
Will this blasted noise never stop?

I find myself drifting away
My metronome, the constant sound.
I ponder things now come to pass
As I lie on this cold, hard ground.

A darkness hangs over this place.
Into the night this farewell goes.
I wish I could have helped you, dear.
I wish I could have said hello.

Madness starts to quell my sorrow,
Driven by that unholy sound.
What was once one now become two:
The subtle slow of my heart's pound.

Your memory haunts me, empty, black.
Try to forget, to no avail.
I wipe away a single tear,
But leave behind a crimson trail.

I've found the source of my madness,
These wounds I'd hoped would make me feel.
Alas, still flooded, stricken, numb,
Tainted by your loss, so unreal.

A darkness hangs over me now.
Into this night, my farewell goes.
I wish I could have saved you, dear.
I wish I could have said hello.

An opportunity now gone.
What I wouldn't give just to know
That you were even here, my dear.
To tend the seed that I did sow.

Forevermore you shall remain
Naught but a blank in my mind's eye.
I never even knew you, dear.
How did you bring me tears to cry?

The darkness fades to nothingness,
Vision to match your memory.
Perhaps someday I'll say farewell,
Then you, at last, hello to me.

Penned by my hand on the 2nd of Glacian, in the year 729 AF.
