The Flight of the Dove
Coo, coo, little dove&
I hear the trumpets of war calling.
Flee, o perfectly pure and innocent one,
Before the tower begins a-falling&
Too late was she, this little dove,
Her fate was doomed to last,
With ashes coating her pure white wings,
Her sins covering her past.
To the blackened tree she flew,
Seeking to belong,
A up to a Raven she had found
She let out her sorrowful song.
This raven, his sins were of the worst,
He spun his tale of lies and cunning,
And the dove believed such spiteful things,
Herself so young in calling.
To the Ravens Kingdom they flew,
Her sin-blackened wings o so frail,
His shimmering glamour of webs entangling her,
And the dove followed after his beguile.
The dove took on another form,
That of the magpie, glossy black wings and tail,
And foolishly she tried to follow the Ravens lies,
An attempt due to fail.
She tried to fight off other Truths,
Collecting things that attracted her eye,
And the Raven, O that dastardly Raven,
Watched from his malignant throne with humoured tears in his eyes.
Eventually the Magpie, she had had enough,
The Ravens tricks and lies no longer held sway,
And in a less than honourable flight,
The Magpie was killed and begun to follow the Jay.
The Jay was understanding of the Magpie,
And took her under his wing,
Guiding her to his rugged home,
Where he was held as King.
The magpie began to understand the error of her ways,
That day she left with the Raven king,
And her wings began to shine once more,
Losing what had once been her greed gotten bling.
Desperate to make this her home,
The Magpie served with haste,
Not pausing for a moment,
To slow down her rapid pace.
The Jay recognized her deeds,
And brought her to the court,
Where they turned her to a Cardinal,
A tender, yet hesitant resort.
In an effort to keep the Cardinal alive,
They put her into fun,
Dancing with fairies and butterflies,
And eating a many pastry bun.
During this time, the Cardinal realized,
Shed had another problem,
Slimish things had becomes her friends,
And she was tirelessly coated in goo.
So, she cast it all aside,
And swore to follow the Jay,
Now even more falling into her new spiritual life,
The Cardinal began to pray.
At first it was a small whisper,
A thinnest spool of lace,
Telling the Cardinal to work in haste,
And thus she fell deeper into the Jays embrace.
Delighted by all that which she had done,
The Cardinal decided to retire,
But healing yet from all the abuse,
She thought about finding inner fire.
A gentle tug besought her soul,
And the Cardinal begun to fly,
Her wings guiding her to return to,
The city in the sky.
She did not know who she would meet there,
For so long she had dwelled with the land,
But one bird she met was shocking,
The Blue Eagle of the Sand.
The Cardinal with her firey wings,
Sought redemption from the Lady,
Her home in the forest she held so dear,
From so far away, seemed much like a baby.
Sorrowful though it had been,
The Cardinal had to abandon the woods,
Her tear streaked face was washed away,
By the possibilities of what coulds.
And so the Cardinal returned to where she belonged,
And by the Eagles side she flew,
Till her wings shone brightly once more,
And dove was made anew.
