Working against Fate

Take a step back and see all you've wrought
Look with horror what your intentions have brought
Slanted, misshapened, it shakes and buckle
A house of sticks, ready to crumple

Why oh why, could you not leave it alone?
What good is it to only now bemoan?
The time for foundation is already passed
Judgement upon you, has long been cast

Foolish is the man who rushes destiny
Despoiled what could be a work of natural beauty
No riverbed has ever needed digging
No star above asked you to go a-lighting.

Silly is he who confused cause with effect
Sowing nothing he still asks to collect
Oxen leads cart, wind drives the mill
When cart leads oxen, things go downhill

You may wish and pray that Fate has landed
But some things in life cannot be demanded
Locked on your wants, you lose your soul
Just be YOU, and you've paid Fate's toll

Enter you then into Its realm unending
Open your eyes to a world that needs no tending
Rest your mind here to nurture your heart
Cherish what comes and your wants depart

So take a step back and see all you've wrought
Say your farewell and consider yourself taught
The road ahead does reach the horizon
-- May it leads back before I'm old and wizen

Penned by my hand on the 1st of Miraman, in the year 708 AF.
