Midnight Masquerade

Paint me, my darling,
In the colours of Desire:
Upon my lips, a kiss of scarlet,
In my eyes, draw golden fire.
With reverent caresses,
Wash away my sorrow's hues.
Lead me now, my darling,
In this dance I won't refuse.

Step by step, now, take me
Through this evening's promenade,
Where saints and sinners don their masks
In passionless charade.
We'll steal away, with fingers twined,
To a garden of recluse.
In these shadows, you are mine--
With a kiss, I'll claim this truth.

Through this midnight's gentle breeze
Weave the whispers of Love's song.
In rhapsodic bliss, the masks may fall,
Forgotten 'til the dawn.
And as the day's sweet sunrise comes,
We'll laugh, and slip away
To find another midnight dance
In this endless masquerade.

Penned by my hand on the 17th of Scarlatan, in the year 601 AF.
