A man once stood amidst the wreck
Of another's dreams... and smiled.
In his hands he held the sea
And heavens' only child.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The man sat down, his lute across his knee
His eyes were grey as he looked down at me
And asked me what it was I was to play.
"My soul is dark. Please, quickly tune
Those strings, for I would like to hear.
The Moon has set, the dawn comes soon
Please, drown these noises from my ears!
If in this heart a hope is here
That sound shall rain it down again.
If in these eyes there lives a tear
It will be shed, and cease to burn my brain.
But let the chords be deep, and wild
Don't let your notes of joy be first.
I tell you, friend, that I must cry
Or else this heavy heart will burst!
For it has been through sorrows long
And in its sleepless silence nursed
And now it's doomed to know the worst
And break at once-- or yield to song."
Penned by my hand on the 18th of Lupar, in the year 587 AF.
