"The Bone Forest"

?The Bone Forest?

Beneath the Vault of black bejeweled with light
I walked alone, barefoot through dew wet grass
The scent of jasmine fresh on the winds sigh.
I came to a forest never before seen,
Bare trees of white bone sprung up form dark soil
Above the Dance burned with colors unreal.

I stood there so small, alone with the trees
Their bark's smooth as glass, and harder than stone.
My legs grew weak then, so I sank to my knees.
The wonder of the place took all my fear
I was safe, now, in this womb of dark light.
This is where I'll stay, to think and to feel.

Some time did pass and horror came to me
My head swam with colors, lurid and mean
My stomach burned as I leaned on a tree.
I felt the rough bark beneath my small hands
Faces in the stars laughed at my weakness
Here is pain that I know, never will heal.

The world spun wildly, I knew I would die
I'd gone where forbidden and for the price
Here with the bone trees forever I'd lie.
A great cough wracked me and up came some blood,
Along with it, pieces of the mushroom.
I wept for my forest, none of it's real.

Penned by my hand on the 18th of Sarapin, in the year 574 AF.
