The last tournament of the joust upon the lands now Meropis, it has been said, was a thousand years gone. But the Fall of Imperial Seleucar, and the ultimate collapse of that great empire at the hands of the Sapient League, Parni deSangre, and Sir Davis Kephry, sent tradition piled upon custom into the unknown grey of the lost and the absent. The forgotten.
On Sapience the efforts of Galviarn Desh had ensured jousting's formal revival in the Delosian arena during the celebrations of the Year 650 AF. But he had time and again been given cause to wonder at the true scale of his success. After all, rare was the knight, knight-aspirant, or even mere mounted rider who thought to test their mettle in aught else than the simple swing of blade and steel. And the jousting field of Targossas for decades into long centuries went nigh-on wholly unused; indeed, doubt reigned as to whether the citizens of the Dawnspear and Bloodsworn Gods were even aware of its existence.
It was to the reformed Guild of Knights that the Beastrider turned his attention. Who better to put the authority and weight of an organisation to the joust than they? Had not its pages and squires already seen not one but at least two prior tournaments to their completion?
Yet another tournament was planned for the year 912 AF, a spectacle that ranged the length and breadth of Delos and drew nobility from Duchess Alorina - her favour bestowed upon Sir Wessux - to Lady Talarna of Targossas and even the Lord Adryn himself. Knights, steeds, lances, and more were seen in the lists that month, there to clash until Ereia Visindi rode to victory.
But why leave the possibility of such a contest to Sapience alone?
An idle but well-timed remark to an Asteri knight upon the Coastal Road had made quick passage to that esteemed Order's Knight-Captain, and from there, eventually, to the Knight Regent and Knight Arbiter of the Guild.
And so it was that on the 15th of Aeguary in the Year 913 AF, Squires Aina and Ardor took to their steeds, handed lances to attendants, and raced towards one another down the length of the jousting field in the first bout of the Aster Malik arena.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Summary: With the support of Sirocco Fortress and the Guild of Knights, the well-timed assistance of a master mason, Galviarn's own instructive presence, as well as the eager contributions of Aster Malik's townsfolk, a jousting field was opened in Aster Malik on the continent of Meropis.
Penned by My hand on the 15th of Miraman, in the year 913 AF.
