It began as almost a flight of fancy, something to provide Sapience's keenest deductive mind with stimulation absent Caer Witrin's snowblossoms. A means of ensuring it would neither dull nor fall foul of the necessities and rigors of an investigation in which the trail had gone cold. Who could resist?
During the month of Chronos, eight hundred and twenty-five years following the collapse and fall of the Seleucarian empire, an unfortunate event occurred in the northern reaches of Sapience. After a time contact was made, and the progress of the case ensured. A venturing Cyrenian by the name of Kryn met a handsomely aristocratic yet mildly dazed gentleman wandering within the snows of the Northreach Forest. Joined by the adventurers Nephiny, Naoko, and Iocun, the facts were established for the more recent arrivals. The man, a keenly intelligent investigator by measure and analysis of deductive reasoning, was missing any and all memories of who he was or how he had gotten there.
For lesser individuals this would have proven an insurmountable obstacle, but to those present it was anything but. They quickly deduced that a southern home, though not within any of the great cities by analysis of language and the lack thereof, was the natural conclusion. Delos became the group's first port of call, speaking with the legendary Swordmaster, Colbey Barca. It was Colbey who gave them the name of their handsomely attired companion: none other than Chief Inspector Wavel El-Mellon Cloussoi the Third, second son of the El-Mellon branch of the Cloussoi family of Delos, formerly of Shallam and formerly of Imperial Seleucar.
This testimony established the identity of Chief Inspector Wavel El-Mellon Cloussoi the Third without any doubt. But what it did not do was answer the most pertinent facts of the case, namely the remainder of the Six Questions (the Six, as all knowledgeable individuals are aware, are Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How). Indeed, it seemed a far more powerful force was the culprit in the pilfered remembrances, but that was not a thing to deter these intrepid investigators from seeking the truth. At Colbey's urging the group ventured once more to the north, this time heading to none other than the reclusive kingdom of Istarion.
There the group sought an audience with King Avathar'an. They learned from the noble ruler that their companionably aristocratic amnesiac had indeed visited, seeking an application to membership in the Conclave. It was also made clear to each detective that while Chief Inspector Wavel El-Mellon Cloussoi the Third had indeed made Istarion one port of call, it was not the last. For that, they would have to venture beyond Sapience and indeed even the Prime Material Plane. To learn the truth, they would have to seek out Eros, the Desire, the once-God within Nur, the City Forever.
The sojourn upon the boughs of Yggdrasil was brief, lessened by the talent of Imperiate Keorin in the arts of the Magi. Within Nur, and the ancient temple to the Desire once created by the Aldar, the ultimate culprit of the Missing Memories was unearthed. Seeking amusement through a challenge, it had been Eros himself who removed the history of Chief Inspector Wavel El-Mellon Cloussoi the Third.
After all, how better to prove one's intellectual supremacy than by showing how even the absence of one's identity, the core of their very being, could not halt their mind's process in discerning the truths hidden behind a veil of mystery?

Summary: An amnesiac detective was found wandering the Northreach Forest in the mid-month of Chronos. Joining him in an investigation across the expanse of Sapience and then onward to the very planes themselves, several adventurers assisted the investigator, Chief Inspector Wavel El-Mellon Cloussoi the Third, in recovering his memories. With his mind and history restored through the invaluable aid of Achaeans, the Chief Inspector would go on to submit his application for membership in Yudhishthira's Conclave.
