The Adryn Family Contest

It began, as such things tend to do, with an announcement. The Lord of Adryn Keep informed the world that he and his Lady would be hosting a grand festival and contest on the grounds of their Keep! Though adventurers were abuzz with curiousity at what these events might consist of, their inquisitiveness would not be sated until several months later when a herald from the Keep began to make the rounds to each city inquiring whether they would be receptive to a visit from the Lord and his entourage. Each city quickly agreed and the next month saw Adryn leave his keep, attendants and workers in tow, to embark on his ambitious journey.
At each stop, Lord Adryn explained the particulars of the contest and left behind a curious urn for usage in the contests to come. The outline was simple: This was to be a city versus city contest that would span five events and over a year! The cities would compete to see which would emerge victorious in a hunting competition, land race, ship race, Game of Eyes, and a mysterious "Gauntlet". Adding a twist was the time based nature of most of these competitions rather than direct head to head conflict.
Ashtan struck first, winning the grueling hunting competition by the barest of margins over a determined Cyrene. Hashan surprised the field by turning in an unmatched performance in the land race, the fleet of foot Tharvis Dicondron leading their charge, undaunted by the ambiguous codes that barred their way. The ship race saw the meticulous planning of Mhaldor pay off in a truly impressive demonstration of navigation by Taraus Bravi'os. The Game of the Eyes brought every city out to compete in an unprecedented showing that was decided in the final minutes by the village of Eleusis' final push. The final event, the Gauntlet, proved no match for the quick wit and teamwork of the Targossians who completed it with little difficulty while their competition struggled for days.
The victories were spread out during the tournament with no single city dominating. The overall winner was decided by the barest of margins with Mhaldor beating Eleusis via the barest of margins to take second place in the Gauntlet. For their achievement, Mhaldor was presented with a boon of an addition of their choice, within a budget, for their city along with accolades to stand the test of time.
In the end, the Lord and Lady Adryn wound down their festival greatly pleased with the turnout and results and determined that it would not be the last of such competitions.
