Sweat slowly running down the fair skin of her face, a young priestess
was running for her life. Ahead were the gates leading into the Jewel of
the East, behind was a group of vicious zombies, attacking everyone in
their path. Barely outrunning her pursuers, the priestess Honatia made
it to Fish Street where the city's defenders quickly and without
hesitation slew the foul creatures.
The young priestess's hectic arrival drew quite a crowd, and Honatia was
barely able to catch her breath before the questions began. Fighting
down a sense of panic, she explained that she had recently uncovered a
section of catacombs beneath the graveyard of the well-known Azdun
dungeon. But this was not just a tomb filled with mindless zombies,
Honatia warned. Her research had revealed signs of a powerful
necromancer building an army of fierce undead to do his master's
bidding. The eyes of the assembled crowd grew wide in shock as she
revealed the worst of her news: this "master" appeared to be none other
than Dominar, the final remaining member of the power-hungry
Magisterion, a trio last seen in the turbulent events surrounding the
re-discovery of Istarion.
A buzz of terror and excitement whisked through the group as they began
to rally their citizens against this resurfaced evil. Soon, a party led
by Veldrin Crescent and Draekar Rian was en route to the Dakhota Hills.
Descending into the belly of the ruined castle therein, Honatia showed
them a small temple she intended to use as her base of operations within
the dungeon. With a quiet prayer, Archprelate Colgano
LastGoodbye-Kelworan began a ritual of sanctification for the haven, and
the entire group knelt. As they chanted, enhancing the powerful magics
at work, the undead began to take notice and stormed the temple,
attacking fiercely in hopes of disrupting what had begun. Undeterred by
the bloodshed around them, the archprelate and the priestess continued
their prayers, and soon the entire space was engulfed in a bright light,
banishing the undead creatures and ensuring they would no longer
trespass.
Remaining within the safety of the temple, Honatia gave directions to
the entrance of the long-hidden catacombs, and her Shallamese companions
began a careful exploration of the area. Though the dreaded Magister
Dominar was nowhere to be found, signs of his authority were
unmistakeable among the ruinous tombs, and with renewed vigour, the holy
task of cleansing the undead was begun.
