After a recent show of manipulation within the leadership of the Holy Paladins, Sartan took the position of Patron from the Lord of Righteousness, Pentharian. Caerid, the Guildmaster of the Paladins, and his wife, Malia, were swayed with promises of power, influence and notability.
Once the deal had been brokered, the guild membership was swiftly placed on probation and the Lord of Evil was patroned. This brought immediate reaction from the Paladins who had no way to respond to the dictatorship of Caerid.
After the passage of several days the pressure upon Caerid became great. He was removed from the city of Shallam and excommunicated from the Church. His one-time friends and allies now shunned and hated him. Under this pressure, Caerid continued his downward spiral.
He quickly stole the entire paladin savings and, in cooperation with the Order of Evil, began the process of killing his old allies with the skills granted to him from the gods. In the end Caerid was ejected from the Paladins by force.
Lord Sartan then repaid his allies, Caerid and Malia for their service to his Order.
All of Achaea was invited to meet with him at The Shrine of Ascension for an event that should not be missed. Caerid and Malia believed that they would be raised to the status of Order Leaders and a new city would be given unto them to rule over.
It was not to be so
The ceremony began with Lord Sartan stating the many atrocities which had been commited over the previous days. Sartan then commanded his Order to strip the two prideful mortals naked, that they may stand before him in their natural state. They then groveled before the almighty Lord Sartan, to show their dedication to the Evil God. The Order was then commanded to flog the two mortals mercilessly, that they would learn strength through their pain.
It was at this point Lord Sartan, thanked the two for their loyal service, cast them from his Order and had his iniquitous followers slay them.
Needless to say this was not the ending these mortal expected.
Thus is the story of Caerid and Malia. Destroyed by greed and the promises of power. Let it be a lesson unto all.
Penned by my hand on the 18th of Phaestian, in the year 276 AF.
