Early in the month of Lupar, the dragon Yudhishthira developed a hunger
for fresh and tender meat that the lepers and harpies of the isle of
Polyargos could not provide. Driven by his appetites, the fearsome
dragon emerged from his volcanic cavern, winging towards Sapience.
Adventurers gasped in dismay as his dark shadow passed over the
continent, his piercing cry ringing out from above. After being rebuffed
from preying upon a Shallamese orphan by the city guard's archers, the
dragon found his morsel of fresh meat in Bagwar's Copse. Clutching the
child Elsa in his talons, Yudhishthira returned to Polyargos as Elsa's
grandparents, Olga and Ernest, shouted after him in anger and distress.
A huge gathering of adventurers rushed to Polyargos to rescue Elsa from
her doom, Mordeanna assisting Ernest to find his way there as well.
Though terrified, the young girl had had the wits to dash through a
narrow crevice in Yudhishthira's cave where he could not reach her, and
she was safe from being eaten for the moment. Jaizsur was the first to
find the trembling girl there. While Jaizsur soothed her, the rest
engaged in battle with Yudhishthira and his loyal wyverns. The blood of
dozens spilled to the ground before Skye managed to land the killing
blow.
Unfortunately, the victory was short lived. As Elsa disembarked from the
ferry near the Aalen forest, Deridius leapt at the child and murdered
her before the eyes of her saviours.
Elsa's grandfather Ernest witnessed this debacle in mute horror, but his
muteness departed along with Deridius, who fled the scene with Elsa's
corpse. Ernest howled out his grief, pleading to the Gods to repay the
monstrous deed. His prayers reached the ears of the Goddess of Vengeance,
Keresis. She shouted out a call for a hunt on Deridius, and for his head
to be brought to Her.
Vengeance was swiftly dealt by Estach, who presented it to Lady Keresis
and Ernest. Though sorrowful at the death of his granddaughter, Ernest
was gladdened by this.
Later, Elsa's corpse was retrieved from the Underworld by Estach and
given to the priestess Carmell. She, along with others, held vigile over
the body in the Basilica as Elsa navigated the halls of Sarapis to
return to the world of the living once more.
Penned by my hand on the 5th of Lupar, in the year 388 AF.
