The courtship of Scarlatti and Selene culminated in His gift to Her of a
beautiful village - Caer Witrin, a colony of artists high in the Vashnar
mountains. Hand in hand they explored the village even as mortals ran
all over the new area marvelling at its wonders. Finally, in the centre
of the town plaza, Scarlatti produced a humble 'loves-me-not' flower
and, falling to one knee, asked the Lady Selene to marry Him. She
accepted, and there was much joy.

The joy was short-lived, however, when it was realized that the Lady
appeared sickly, and had fallen silent, slumped in the Great Bard's
arms. Scarlatti carried Her to shelter, where concerned mortals and a
stricken Scarlatti fretted over Her, trying to determine the cause of
Her sudden malady. It was Skye who first suggested that Her accepting
Scarlatti's proposal may have been the cause. Refusing to accept this,
Scarlatti called for His sister, Mithraea, Goddess of Healing, to come
help His beloved.

Mithraea confirmed the worst fears of those present. As Goddess of Love,
Selene cannot love one person above all others; it would sap the essence
of who and what She is. Mithraea explained to the distraught Bard that
He had to let Her go, or it would destroy Her. Scarlatti saw the truth
in this, and realized the sacrifice He must make. He departed, leaving
Selene in the care of Mithraea. The Goddess of Beauty quickly came to
Herself again, but Scarlatti will be absent from the lands, at least for
a little while, as mortals enjoy His final gift to His love.
