Moghedu

It started with a post by the Maldatthi Gaillardia Aristata proclaiming
on behalf of Mhaldor that Moghedu was now under the control of Mhaldor.
This sparked scattered outrage across the land, but of course, mostly in
Moghedu itself.

Mhaldor moved into the mhun stronghold en masse and began slaughtering
all they could find and dragging the youth of the mhun back to Mhaldor
for a life of slavery. Citizens of various other cities in the land
quickly flocked to Moghedu and joined in the conflict either as
aggressors or defenders. After a few minor skirmishes, a delegation of
Shallamese sought out the Mhunna to offer their assistance in whatever
his plans were.

Distrustful of any outsiders, the Mhunna first viewed this offer with
contempt and sent them away, citing he was busy. Soon though, his anger
cooled and he realized his people would need outside assistance if they
were to survive and rally again to beat back these invaders. He
contacted the priest, Anu Estrada, who had lead the earlier delegation,
and explained that he needed their help in driving the invaders out so
that all the entrances to Moghedu could be sealed.

The group quickly agreed and the Mhunna posted a statement to Mhaldor
essentially saying - "If you think we're going to just hand over
Moghedu, think again". Then the battle was on. The gates to the
stronghold were quickly locked, but the battles still raged. At first,
the defenders had the upper hand, slaying many of the Mhaldorians
quickly. However, soon enough more warriors joined with the Mhaldorians
and led by the defense was broken. The raiding forces even managed to
break through to kill the Mhunna himself, the Tanjinn Guildmaster,
Diamondesce landing the killing blow. Things seemed dire and the Mhunna
considered abandoning the stronghold to attempt to rally a
counterattack, but the tide turned once again when Latus Sioraiocht
initiated a worldburn which killed the vast majority of the raiding
force.

This gave the mhuns time to rally their full strength to throw up in
defense against their invaders. The mhuns, in their own stronghold,
fully enraged, and with their very survival at stake, proved more of a
match than the Mhaldorians had obviously been expecting. Small attacks
continued, but were quickly put down by the fast moving Moghedu
defenders while Hashan and Shallam forces worked together to cancel the
numerous wormholes allowing access to Moghedu.

When the last wormhole was closed, the Shallam forces left Moghedu to
make it completely secure from portals and other methods of access. Soon
though, the Mhaldorians regained access using portals, and the attack
began again. This time, they met the full brunt of the Moghedan army,
enraged that the Mhaldorians were entering their lands once more. The
Mhaldorians were clearly just expecting the few guards and miners they
normally encountered when they ventured into the stronghold, but this
was no ordinary day - this was a fight for their freedom. The guards
moved quickly in their home tunnels, assisted at times by their new
allies, relentlessly tracking down every enemy who dared enter until the
Mhaldorians were once again drove out, though they put up a fierce
battle.

It seems clear that the day will not be won by a frontal assault, not
when Moghedu is on full alert. Yet what does Mhaldor hope to gain in
this battle? How long will Moghedu keep its doors closed to the outside
world? Is it truly as secure as the Mhunna hopes? An uneasy silence has
fallen as the world waits for what the next few months will reveal.

Penned by my hand on the 18th of Chronos, in the year 354 AF.
