criticals

There seems to be a bit of a lack of understanding of how criticals
work. I've heard some complaining that DSLers and monks get more
critical hits. This is true. They get more critical hits. What is not
true is that they end up doing more damage because of these critical
hits. They don't. They do exactly the same extra-percentage of damage,
overall, that anyone doing any attack vs. a mobile does.

It's like this: Say a normal one-shot attack does 100 points of damage,
and that each hit of a DSL does 50 points of damage. A critical on the
one-shot attack (level 1 critical) boosts that damage to 200. A critical
on one of the DSL shots boosts the damage for that DSL to only 150 (as
one of the slashes is doubled, for 100, and the other is not, for 50).

In any case, I assure you, it makes no difference except insofar as
DSLers and monks see the critical message more often. It has no effect
on relative damage.

Penned by my hand on the 11th of Miraman, in the year 294 AF.
